Abstracts:

The effect of external unsteady ponderomotive forces on the wave modes of the film flowing over a vertical surface are examined by two specific examples. In the first case, the ferromagnetic liquid film flowing down under gravity along a vertical cylinder of large radius is influenced by the magnetic field. Apart from gravity the film is influenced by a spatially inhomogeneous magnetic force, which varies over time. Here, the authors consider the axially symmetrical disturbances on such a film. In the second case, the two-dimensional waves on the surface of viscous dielectric liquid film flowing along the inner surface of one of the plates of a vertical flat condenser are considered. The film is influenced by time-dependent electric field. For these examples, at small flow rates and long-wave perturbations the problem is reduced to one model equation, describing the evolution of the film thickness perturbation. The aim of this work is to study this model equation. The numerical calculations of solutions are presented, and several typical scenarios of the evolution of periodic disturbances are obtained. It is shown that the essential role of ponderomotive forces is due to their effect on the size of the region of linear instability of the undisturbed flow with flat free boundary.
