Abstracts:

Hydraulic resistance (total pressure loss) in gascompressor unit’s air intake is one of the major factors impacting on gas turbine performance. Frost buildup on filters’ surface of air-filtration system brings to considerable increase of total pressure losses in winter and accordingly, to emergency shutdown of a unit. Thus, there arises a problem of frosting prevention. The proposed means of solving this problem consists in usage of cycle air heating system (CAHS) in front of filters, so that to increase inlet air temperature and raise dew-point temperature. In this article there is given experiment-calculated analysis of CAHS’s operation as a part of air-filtration system which shows heat distribution on filters’ surface and allows to find frost buildup areas. Flow pattern calculation was performed using computational hydrodynamics’ package Ansys CFX . Considering the received results there was manufactured an air-filtration system which was highly appreciated by an exploiting company.
