In a place of a heater placement design decisions will include two main options: with placement of a scrap heater in a shop converter office (option I) and in a scrap section (option II). The option I allows to use for scrap metal heating at the same time both physical, and chemical heat of converter gas, and heater placement in close proximity to the converter minimize heat losses by heated scrap at its transportation to the converter and a period between the end of heating and scrap loading in the converter which as a whole gives the grounds to count on rather high efficiency of this option.
The problem of this work consisted in development of technical solutions on placement of scrap heaters in oxygen and converter shop.
During a cleaning the high-temperature gas which was allocated from the converter is selected in bypass from the lower part of OKG by the steam ejector, and then through a lock operating gas streams goes to heater sections.
Heating of scrap is carried out directly in loading scoops. Heating cameras where scoops with heated scrap are located, in this option are organized on the railway platforms similar to platforms used in converter ladle. During heating of the camera’s scrap by means of movement platforms are joined to the stationary (motionless) covers of the heater equipped with bringing and taking-away gas exhaust pipe.
Placement of a scrap heater in a scrap section (option II) as a result of less constrained conditions for equipment placement in comparison with option I and using for heating of the cooled cleared converter gas that simplifies its transportation, helps to diversify joining of a heater to the gas outlet of the converter, and also to combine a heater with other installations for the purpose of a secondary utilization of gas heat after scrap metal heating.
The economic effect from converter gas using for heating of scrap metal is caused by essential increase share of scrap in charge to oxygen and converter melting and the corresponding economy of cast iron on steel smelting.
