Abstracts:

In the report the results of experimental investigations into magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) influence on the supersonic nitrogen flow about an axisymmetric body are presented. The experiments were carried out at the Ioffe Institute Big Shock Tube at the end of which the test section with a supersonic nozzle was located. At the outlet cross section of the nozzle the model under study in the shape of a cone mated with a cylinder was positioned. A magnetic field is established by a solenoid located at the cylindrical part of the model due to pulsed electric current flowing through the solenoid when discharging an external voltage source. With the help of electrodes located at the conical surface of the model a gas discharge is initiated which starts to rotate around the model under the action of the solenoidal magnetic field. Influence of the magnetic field on the gasdynamic structure of the flow near the model and on the heat flux toward its surface is investigated. In the experiments, Shlieren patterns of the flow, photographic scannings of the discharge glow were recorded, and measurements of the heat flux was conducted. Influence of the magnetic field on the gasdynamic structure of the flow near the model and on the heat flux toward its surface are found. It is also found the dependence of the MHD effects on the polarity of connection of the external voltage source.
