Abstracts:

The present work is devoted to experimental study of flow structure in a model draft tube TURBINE-99 (T-99). There are large amount of numerical works dealing with this geometry but experimental data are limited to flow characteristics obtained in a few cross-sections. Therefore aim of the present work was gaining comprehensive experimental data on the flow structure in T-99 model. This data are necessary for verification of numerical calculations and also for optimization of the draft tube design for the purpose of the energy loss reduction and enhancement of the hydroturbine operation stability. The study has been conducted with the use of modern experimental techniques such as high speed camera for the flow visualization and automated LDA system for the velocity field measurements.
